"I have a bold vision for our main sanctuary. I believe the world we are entering in the next forty years will need visible signs of hope. I look around us and I see spiritual malaise, if not spiritual darkness. I see believers and parishes in danger of being isolated and swallowed up by a secular culture. Whether the world around us is in darkness or in light, our strength will be in connecting with believers throughout our community, our nation and throughout the world. And just as importantly, other communities will be strengthened by connecting with us.
"Imagine a sanctuary full of VBS kids, singing with kids from our partner church in Kitui Kenya, real time, or a youth rally here on site connected by camera with youth gathered at other locations, sharing the same message and music. Imagine gathering here to pray a rosary along with congregations in the St. Paul Cathedral, or even in St. Peter’s square at the Vatican. Imagine inviting a guest to mass and having the prayers we take for granted actually visible to all without searching through a book. That’s my vision for projection screens in our church." — Fr. Jim Livingston homily, Nov. 14-15, 2020
The screens have to look like they’ve always belonged in the sanctuary. They have to be big to be effective but they highlight the fact that in a pre-Covid world and again in a post-Covid world, our altar is not quite large enough to hold all the vessels needed for mass. We will double the size of the altar and increase the size of the sanctuary platform to bring a sense of proportion and dignity to the holy space. The visual message will be plain to see. Christ is the center of this faith community.
