Protocols for volunteers exposed or who become sick with COVID-19 symptoms.
EXPOSED
If a COSP volunteer is exposed (had close contact of less than 6 feet for a sustained period of more than 15 minutes) to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, they should immediately self-quarantine and not volunteer on premises for a minimum of 10 days. This exposure rule applies even if both persons were wearing masks. It is recommended that they be tested for COVID-19 five days after exposure. The individual cannot return to volunteer service for a minimum of 10 days or until a negative test result is received and shared with the COSP parish administrator. The test must be conducted no sooner than 5 days from the exposure date.
SICK or Test Positive for COVID-19
If a volunteer has tested positive for COVID-19, immediately notify the staff ministry leader or parish administrator. This information will remain private. The volunteer must quarantine, self-isolation is recommended, until they have tested negative, are symptom-free for 72 hours, and at least 7 days have passed since symptoms first appeared. The volunteer may be asked for a list of COSP activities in which they have participated during the previous 10 days.
FAQs
Can I continue to volunteer if a family member, such as my child, had exposure to a person that has tested positive for COVID-19?
Yes, you can continue to volunteer if you are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. This exposure is called two degree of separation from a COVID-19 positive test carrier and does not required quarantining. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 and you have been exposed, you must not volunteer and should self-quarantine. This is considered a one degree of separation exposure.
What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19 and have recently volunteered at the COSP?
You must immediately notify the staff ministry leader and self-quarantine. If your child was exposed to you, that child cannot return or participate in COSP programs for a minimum of 10 days or until a negative test result is received and shared with the staff ministry leader. The test must be conducted no sooner than 5 days from the exposure date.
