I'm Clara Lucca and I'm excited to share a little bit with you about our partnership with Kitui, Kenya. What is beautiful about a partnership and sets it apart from a project is the aspect of mutual sharing. The faith is blossoming in Africa and the Catholic Faith is spreading. However, they are also facing challenges such as drought, starvation, education, illness, and even access to the sacraments. In Minnesota, we have many amazing resources; we are the land of 10,000 lakes after all. But we often have a lack of faith and meaning in our lives.
Our bishops saw this and knew we could be stronger together. So we formed a special connection, a partnership between the diocese of Kitui Kenya and MN. They pray for us. Not just us in the US, us here in MN, at Church of Saint Paul. And when our diocese is short on priests, they send some of theirs to us. Here in MN, we pray for those in Kitui and we send our financial resources as well. And it makes a difference.
My friend Janine visited Kitui Kenya to see the impact of our gifts; Church of Saint Paul is the biggestcontributor to the partnership. Children were able to go to school instead of walking all day to get water from contaminated sources. And they were singing with joy because they were finally able to be clean. Water brings the gift of new life.
I think that during this time it's beautiful to remember that we are able to make a difference all the way across the world even within the confines of our homes. This Lent, as we draw our minds and hearts closer to Christ, we would also like to invite you to draw closer to our brothers and sisters in Kitui Kenya.
